Question UMTS / 3G USB Link

Hello,

I would like to propose a feature in these devices (ip-pbx) that would be somewhat more favorable.
With similarities to other equipment such as Draytek, it is possible to integrate a USB pen GSM UMTS / 3G to link, as if it were a link Bri, FXO or Sip.
Also interesting would be the possibility that in the same method be possible to integrate a usb WiFi.
With this feature would be possible to integrate this equipment in areas not covered by physical cables.

I hope this is possible because there is an untapped market in this direction.

Sincerely,

Henrique Brito

Hi Henrique

truly saying I don't think there is a sense in implementing this. Many years ago (about 8 years ago) we were working on the WiFi USB adapter integration with Quadro. This work was even pretty close to the release state, but it turned out that the price of Access Point devices dropped strongly, and was not much more than the price of WiFi adapter. So it did not make any sense to put all that logic into the Quadro (and to spend on development/testing), when there is the same functionality already implemented for almost the same price.
For Wifi connectivity you can easily buy a WiFi access point and have the functionality you need.

The same I suppose will be with the GSM and 3G. You can buy a GSM gateway and have GSM connectivity. Is the price of GSM gateway significantly more that the one of GSM/3G modem? If the price difference is not much, there will not be a real benefit in integrating the USB gsm/3g modem support into Quadro, and to spend a lot for the development + have huge burden because of supporting different brands of such modems with all the potential incompatibility problems.

Best regards,
David
