Auto-Provisioning Epygi Supported IP Phones with ecQX are Much Easier Now

When it comes to auto-provisioning IP phones with the Epygi Cloud QX Service (ecQX), our customers have a number of choices.

Depending on the phone model, configuring Epygi-supported IP phones with the ecQX is usually achieved either by Auto Configuration using the phone’s provisioning server setting or by Auto Configuration using OpenVPN.

Auto Configuration using a phone’s provisioning server is available for all Epygi-supported IP phone models. This method is for those who need to simplify the IP phone configuration procedure where only an IP line on the ecQX needs to be configured and the ecQX hostname entered as the Provisioning Server in the phone’s WEB GUI.

Our clients, who desire a more secure procedure, can opt for Auto Configuration using OpenVPN service which is also available for most Epygi-supported IP phones.

Recently an additional auto provisioning method has been tested with Htek, Yealink and Fanvil IP phones. This method takes advantage of the phone vendor’s RPS (Redirect Provisioning Server) and it allows the phones to be Auto Configured “out of the box”, augmenting the auto provisioning capabilities of both, our cloud ecQX and the QX IP PBX line. After configuring an IP line on the ecQX, login to the phone vendor’s RPS and simply enter the MAC address of the IP phone and the URL of the ecQX. Upon initial boot-up of the phone, the RPS will redirect the phone to the ecQX for the phone configuration.

Introducing Epygi’s Calling Cost Control Feature Enhancements

The Epygi Calling Cost Control has been enhanced with a Low Balance Notification feature. It allows credits to be assigned to and managed for each specific QX IP PBX extension to make calls. The assigned credit would be used and controlled when making calls through specific payable call routing rules. Extensions without a credit can’t use the payable routing rules.

The predefined credits will be used during a call by such extensions and once the available credit has expired, placing new calls through the payable routing rules will not be possible until the available credit limit is replenished. The limit can be updated either manually or automatically by the renewal date and credit amount.

If you are already taking advantage of this feature then the new enhancement, coming soon with the next public release, is just for you. Before establishing the call through specific payable call routing rules, the system will check and announce by voice the low balance, either by citing the amount of the remaining funds or the call duration as desired. The balance check is accomplished on the basis of the predefined threshold for the available balance.

Epygi IP PBXs will Start Supporting Transcoding

Transcoding refers to the conversion of call media from one voice codec to another.

This is performed in order to bridge differences in the calling capabilities between networks supporting the calling and the called parties. For example, when two endpoint phones, involved in a call, do not share a common codec among their codec’s list, the call would not complete.

The upcoming release for QX IP PBXs will support transcoding among a number of popular voice codecs for SIP to SIP calls. You will be able to configure transcoding between the wide range of Epygi-supported voice codec list, e.g., between G.711 to G.729, G.711 to G.726, G.711 to OPUS.

This capability allows you to control the capacity of your VoIP Channels, simplify your network design and lower capital investments.
